Give Thanks for Your Gifts

This is the season for giving thanks. As sisters, you have learned to embrace the value of your beauty and to cultivate the gifts that have been passed on to you. This month, celebrate four qualities — your attitude, sense of humor, self-esteem and self-love — that help to make you an extraordinary sister, friend and Black woman.

Attitude

The way you carry yourself will send a message to the world that you are a self–assured individual who is happy with her life, her beauty and her style. When your outlook on life is positive, you attract positive people, and you will start to see an improvement in how you view your job, family and personal interests. Besides, nothing is more beautiful than positive energy.

Sense of Humor

Laughter is perhaps the best gift a sister can give herself — or anyone. A great sense of humor is therapy for the soul, and when you are happy, you are at peace with yourself. Laughter helps your body naturally deal with stressors, and joy becomes your best makeup.

Self-Esteem

When you have high self-esteem, you exude confidence in everything you do. You start to believe that you are worthy and deserving of only good things in your life. And you are able to form healthy, nourishing relationships instead of toxic ones. You naturally seek a higher purpose in life, and your dreams are more likely to become realities.

Self-Love

When you learn to love and appreciate yourself in every moment, you release yourself from the responsibility of making other people happy. You start to put yourself first and allow your true beauty to resonate. You are no longer consumed by society's perceptions of beauty. Models airbrushed on magazines and debates about thinness versus thickness and lighter skin versus darker skin no longer make you feel inferior. You become a free-spirited African-American woman who knows her Black is Beautiful.
