Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is "My Black is Beautiful"?

A. "My Black is Beautiful" is a celebration of African American beauty in all of its manifestations. Moreover, it is a national conversation—hosted by African American women—about how they define and promote their own beauty standards.

"My Black is Beautiful" was conceived by Procter & Gamble (P&G) and features the participation of P&G beauty and personal care brands including Pantene® Relaxed & Natural, CoverGirl® Queen, Olay® Definity, Tampax® and Always®.

Q. Why did Procter & Gamble create "My Black is Beautiful"?

A. P&G feels a responsibility to both celebrate African American women and challenge the sometimes difficult ways in which that beauty is reflected in popular media. As the leading manufacturer of beauty products for Black women, Procter & Gamble believes it is, now more than ever, important to ignite and lead a celebration of and national discussion surrounding Black beauty.

Q. Who do you want to reach through the "My Black is Beautiful" movement?

A. We want to reach and engage generations of African American women everywhere in the "My Black is Beautiful" movement—especially women who are highly beauty involved.

Q. What are the key campaign components?

A. Key campaign components include a dedicated "My Black is Beautiful" Web site, multi-city road show as part of the Pantene Total You Tour and discussion guide to enable women to host their own conversation in their communities.

  • Women can visit www.myblackisbeautiful.com to learn about and get involved in the movement.

  • Discussion Guides are available on www.myblackisbeautiful.com and in "Essence" magazine's December 2007 issue to help women host their own conversation clusters.

  • "My Black is Beautiful" Expo will take place in 4 U.S. cities starting in June 2008 to allow women to actively engage in the movement in their local communities. Please visit www.myblackisbeautiful.com for details.

Q. Is "My Black is Beautiful" a national or local program?

A. "My Black is Beautiful" is a national movement complemented by local grassroots activities designed to engage Black women of all generations in a discussion about beauty, their collective beauty journey and right to define and promote their own beauty standards.

Q. Who are the "My Black is Beautiful" spokespersons?

A. We hope that as the "My Black is Beautiful" movement unfolds we will unofficially engage generations of Black women everywhere as spokespeople. African American women leaders at Procter & Gamble as well as the spokespeople for participating brands will help to deliver "My Black is Beautiful" messages.

Q. How can Black women get involved in "My Black is Beautiful"?

A. Black women across the country are invited to host and participate in local "My Black is Beautiful" conversation clusters taking place online and in communities throughout the U.S.

Discussion Guides are available on www.myblackisbeautiful.com and in "Essence" magazine's December 2007 issue to help women host their own conversation clusters.

Q. Who do I talk to about featuring my company's products as part of "My Black is Beautiful"?

A. Procter & Gamble beauty and personal care brands Pantene Relaxed & Natural, CoverGirl Queen, Olay Definity, Tampax and Always are all part of the "My Black is Beautiful" movement.

In an effort to support minority businesses, we will also offer retail space in each of the selected four (4) tour markets. Send an email to info@myblackisbeautiful.com for more information.

Q. Do you need local advertising, marketing or public relations agency support?

A. "My Black is Beautiful" has pre-negotiated contracts for advertising, marketing and public relations services.
