Spring 2011 Fashion Week Ends in Stylish Color

Procter & Gamble's My Black is Beautiful Presents the First-Ever My Black is Beautiful LIVE! experience and Model Casting Call in New York City

Cincinnati, OH: September 17, 2010 — At the conclusion of a week of exciting previews of the spring 2011 fashion collections, Procter & Gamble is rounding out Fashion Week with a model casting call in New York City. This casting call is featured as part of the unique My Black is Beautiful LIVE! experience.

My Black is Beautiful LIVE! will make its debut this Saturday, September 18, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Metropolitan Pavilion (located at 125 W. 18th St., New York, NY 10011). This beauty and wellness event invites thousands of local females to enjoy complimentary services, such as:

  • Olay® facials
  • Pantene® hairstyling
  • CoverGirl® Queen Collection makeovers
  • Crest® Pro-Health® screenings
  • Always® Spoken Word Let It Flow Lounge
  • Secret® Wellness Pavilion
  • Massages
  • Full manicures

This event will feature performances from hip-hop pioneer MC Lyte and R&B/jazz singer Leela James.

Auditions for the model search will take place throughout the day, where eight semifinalists will be chosen to advance to the finals. The final two people chosen will be featured in a national ad campaign for the brand and will also appear in Season 3 of the My Black is Beautiful TV Show.

"New York is our last stop, and we hope this event will help celebrate and encourage more conversations among African-American women about perceptions and realities of black beauty within our society," said Kisha Mitchell Williams, P&G Multicultural Brand Manager. "We believe that bringing My Black is Beautiful LIVE! to New York, one of the most trendy cities in the U.S., and conducting a model search here in the Big Apple, will bolster black self-esteemand celebrate African-American women."

Earlier in the week, P&G commenced the Fashion Week festivities in celebration of "JONES" Magazine's first fall fashion issue and was proud to host the first-ever JONES Awards, presented by My Black is Beautiful. "JONES" Magazine is a unique, nationally distributed fashion, beauty, lifestyle and shopping glossy that targets black women, women of color and the JONES Awards-honored individuals who promote diversity and equal opportunity within the fashion and beauty industries. The roster of honors includes the JONES Model Award (endowed on supermodel and "JONES" Magazine fall issue cover girl Sessilee Lopez), the JONES Designer Award (bestowed on the incomparable Byron Lars) and the JONES Beauty Award (received by celebrity makeup artist Sam Fine).

By creating a platform to endow recognition on these unsung individuals, "JONES" Magazine has taken on the cause of promoting diversity in high fashion.
